Through the use of the dramatic arts and engaging teaching techniques, the Center for Education and Leadership at Ford’s Theatre aims to deepen visitors’ knowledge and understanding of Abraham Lincoln’s Presidency, the significance of his death and the legacy he left our nation. Regardless of where our educational programs are administered—on campus, off campus or online—or whether they take place in school or out of school, students, teachers, families and adult learners will be equipped with tools for exploring the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln.
Building for the Future
In 2006, the Board of Trustees approved a new mission for Ford’s Theatre, one that pairs education with theatre as the essential focus of the institution. The new Center for Education and Leadership at Ford’s Theatre, currently scheduled to open in 2011, will foster enlightening opportunities to expand understanding of American History, specifically Abraham Lincoln, his Presidency and the Civil War as a collective point of departure.
During and following construction of the new center, to be located across the street from the theatre at 514 Tenth Street NW, Ford’s Theatre’s educational presence will be enhanced by Web- and off-site programming that will allow those who cannot visit the Historic Site with the opportunity to encounter the Ford’s Theatre experience from their homes and schools.
