Ford’s Theatre Society is hiring History on Foot Tour Managers to join its team. Ford’s is looking for three to four Tour Managers, this position is part-time based in Washington, D.C.

This position is integral to ensuring the walking tour experience is safe, engaging, and welcoming for all patrons. The tour follows the initial path and conspiracy surrounding the assassination of President Lincoln in the area surrounding Ford’s Theatre and the White House. The Tour Manager guarantees the tour materials are prepared, hands out materials to patrons, and accompanies the tour to ensure it goes smoothly as the actor leads the tour.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate and track all props and supplies for actor. 
  2. Communicate with actors upon arrival and throughout tour, as needed.
  3. Prepare all tour materials for patrons prior to show, including, but not limited to, badges, promotional business cards.
  4. Distribute and scan tickets for patrons and provide facility information and tour material.
  5. Accompany tour to monitor patrons, non-patrons, and assist actor when needed.  Serve as liaison to non-patrons interested in the tour.
  6. Prepare and distribute Tour Report at the end of each tour addressing any notable situations or tour/actor needs, including costume or technical issues.
  7. Knowledge of other outdoor events (i.e. demonstrations, walks) occurring on the tour route.  Assist Actor in redirecting tour, if necessary.

Experience & Requirements

  • 1-2 years of visitor services, house management or stage management experience required.
  • Customer service skills
  • Detail-oriented and flexible
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions of an outdoor walking tour
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills

Salary: $18 per hour
