Lincoln’s Garden Field Trip
Available to request on Wednesdays in September, October, December and January.
Lincoln’s Garden is a modified field trip to the historic site offering a 40 minute guided tour of the museum theatre, directly followed by a 40 minute craft activity. This field trip is appropriate for grades K-2 and for special education classes that may benefit from an interactive, hands-on craft activity as an alternative to a traditional tour experience.
President Lincoln once said, “I want it said of me by those who knew me best, that I always plucked a thistle and planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow.”
Students consider a selection of character traits President Lincoln embodied during his life: he was kind; a good listener; loved to learn; a good helper; brave. They are invited to select and craft a character trait in the form of paper flowers. They’ll then plant these flowers in a class flowerpot, which you will take back to school.
